Grant works on the development and extension of strategies for the management of diseases of field crops. He has more than 25 years of experience in this field. Grant has worked on both foliar and root diseases and has published more than 35 scientific papers on the impact and control of diseases in field crops. During 2003 he took a sabbatical within the rust program at CIMMYT, Mexico.
Grant is the national leader of GRDC root disease project and a former member of GRDC’s Regional Cropping Solutions Committee. His research program also makes a significant contribution to the assignment of disease ratings for new wheat, barley, oat and pulse cultivars as part of GRDC’s NVT disease screening project.
